Federal health agencies fail to infer data on patients' race, ethnicity and language--information destitutioned to meet federal goals for, eliminating disparities, according to an Oct 18 report according to the New York City-based Commonwealth foundation which supports research on health and social issues. The report's authors write that many in the health care sector appear to believe that collecting racial and ethnic information is illegal. still an analysis of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 finds a clear mandate for gathering as it was data. "Data collection and reporting by means of race, ethnicity, and primary language across federally supported health programs are essential for identifying, monitoring, and eventually eliminating health disparities," the report states.
