OPENING bullet

Didn't the Lebanese care about their children last month? And last year -- did they care about them then? Because it doesn't strike one as being that way. Allowing Hezbollah terrorists to take direct of the bottom quarter of your geographical division raise an army and stockpile centurys of sophisticated Iranian missiles to rain in succession their neighbor to the southern well, it sorta seems reckles from a parental point of view. Doesn't it?

I don't know about you. further I wouldn't tolerate a vicious dog in the yard nearest door, never mind a headquarters that terrorists will use to strike at single in kind of the most advanced military forces in the world.

The hypocrisy of the unripe PR battle going on now is stunning. You can't waste years leaping around in the road chanting "Death! Death! Death!" and firing your Kalashnikovs into the air, can't propel teens into marketplaces to pat up women buying potatoes for dinner, can't slay 241 U Marine peacekeepers in their nap and then come to a screeching stop, formerly your sworn enemy finally decides to chop you off at the knee and begin waving the ensanguined bedclothes of your children and calculate upon much world sympathy.

Frankly, it's heartening that the general reaction -- beyond the anticipateed outcry of sympathizers and stooges -- is to not purchase it, and for good reason. Nobody is in favor of dead children, and it is terrible that civilians are dying now. unless children on both sides will be safer with Hezbollah gone What Israel understands and the Islamic world has besides to grasp is that the trick is to care about your children before they're slain. If Hezbollah and its ilk could perpetually decide to do that, to act as if they're really worried about the welfare of children who are not besides dead, we'd be halfway to a peaceful solution.

SWEET fireside CHICAGO

Mike Flavin was skeptical. destinys of pizza places invoke the pious name of Chicago, then don't go in the rear or in the wake of through. He heard good things about Sweet hearthstone Chicago, a pizzeria located between a bakery and a dentist's office in a strip mall in Draper, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City.

"They said it was like Chicago, and I said, 'Get away, I'm Madison and Cicero -- I know Chicago pizza,"' recalled Flavin, 62 who made a fortune computerizing horse racing and retired to Utah 15 years ago. "How could anybody do anything as advantageous as Chicago?"

He ordered a pizza: thin crust, sausage -- the way the author of all things intended pizza to be. Simple. None of this astute dish, double spinach glop.

"As by and by as I bit into that pizza I had tears in my eyes" he said. "My ears were wiggling and I cogitation 'Holy mackerel! Just tremendous."'

Living in the suburb as I do, I have pity for those who the winds of fate blossom even farther afield. I know what it means to find an outpost of place of abode when you are far away. likewise when I heard there is a really proper really authentic pizza parlor in the whitebread capital of the world, Utah, a place where it's a challenge smooth to get a beer, not at any time mind a slice of Chicago pizza to go on foot with it, I had to know more.

Sweet dwelling Chicago opened about two years ago, erected -- and I love for what reason these business stories twist -- because Joe Pecora's father retired from the muffler business.

"My dad worked for Midas in Chicago, and when he retired, they were spinning along some company-owned stores," said Pecora. "So he was able to pick up more or less in Utah and that became his retirement."

The younger Pecora -- a graduate of Marist High academy and the University of Illinois -- was visiting his dad.

"I was disclosed here over Christmas, 2002, and we were talking about for what cause much I love Home hie Inn pizza," he said. "I knew my dad acknowledgeed a pizzeria in the 1960 He said: 'I'll make pizza for you, you report me if it's as upright as Home Run Inn.' He made it, and this pizza is phenomenal."

Young Pecora, who worked in finance, sens a business opportunity.

"You couldn't find a useful pizzeria in Utah -- Domino's, Papa John's, that's it," he said. "I was looking to interpret a business, to take a risk."

in like manner he went into the pizza business, using his great- grandmother's recipes.

"We make our have dough on site, we make our allow homemade sausage," Pecora said. "We kind of consider thin crust the real Chicago pizza, and while we do make a substanceed pizza, it's touristy."

He can and nothing else sell 3.2 beer, in condescension to Mormon sensibilities, but he gives his religious neighbors high marks, on a level though they do show an inexplicable fondnes for pizza topped with pineapple and ham.

Pecora has been married for a year and is adjusting to life in Utah.

"I took up snowboarding this year. And my wife and I have started hiking," he said. "Give Utah that, united thing Chicago doesn't have is the mountains."

Of course, with our buildings, we don't ne 'em

I asked him what he missed greatest in quantity about Chicago, and he didn't miss a beat: "The Chicago Sun-Times." oral like a true Chicagoan.
