fresh YORK -- Closer Ryan Dempster wasn't any happier before the Cubs' game Wednesday against the just discovered York Mets than he was after their victory Tuesday at Shea Stadium.

Dempster still wasn't thrilled about manager Dusty Baker pulling him in the ninth inning of the Cubs' 8-6 victory after Dempster yielded a scour and walked two batters to load the bases. cut short Howry came in to retire Paul see Duca and pick up the save, and Dempster left the clubhouse without talking to the media.

"I wasn't getting wild," Dempster said. "Paul look Duca hasn't gotten a hit on the farther side me in his career, in this way ... it's the way it goe It's part of the game. That cloth happens."

Dempster was asked if he was surprised to behold Baker coming to the hill

"Would you be?" he corresponded

Was he upset?

"Would you be?" he repeated.

"He just did what he stand in want ofed to do to win the game," Dempster added. "He was putting us in the best position he felt he could I threw a destiny of pitches [27]. He's got to do whatever he's had to do. He was making his decisions. I probably shouldn't have walked [Jose Reye before look Duca]. I should have gone right after him."

Still, Dempster felt confident about look Duca coming to bat.

"He was like 0-for-11 [actually 0-for-10] in his career," Dempster said.

Baker said part of his imagination process was that Dempster threw to such a degree many pitches and was pitching for the third day in a uproar But Dempster said he wasn't tired, and he doesn't believe he was wild.

"They were just earth balls, five feet to the right of common guy and two feet to the right of another, and Julio Franco just hit a ball in the right spot" he said. "What can you do?"

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild talked to Dempster forward Tuesday night, but as of sum of two units hours before Wednesday's game, Dempster said he had not talked to Baker. Dempster said he believes Baker still has confidence in him, and Baker said Dempster still is his closer

"I expectancy so," Dempster said, referring to Baker's confidence. "I assume he does. I went by means of some tough stretches earlier this year, and I was back up here."

Dempster said the reason he didn't stick around to talk to reporters was because there was a day game after a night game.

"I had to learn out of there," he said.

Rothschild said Dempster was a little frustrated.

"He's throwing the ball well," Rothschild said. "The last seven times public he's thrown the ball real well, however sometimes those games will happen."
