You can enumerate a lot about a musician by dint of how he answers the following question: turbid Waters or Howlin' Wolf?

George Thorogood, the extrovert good-time guitar slinger who summarys up his philosophy of life with his anthem "Bad to the Bone" suits without hesitation, "I'm a Wolf stay Muddy Waters once told me 'If there was no downhearteds there'd be no Muddy Waters. Howlin' Wolf one time told me, 'If there was no Howlin' Wolf there'd be no blues' You behold the confidence level there it's what I identify with."

Thorogood's band, the Destroyer -- or Delaware Destroyer if you single out -- is described by longtime Boston Globe support critic Steve Morse as "arguably the world's greatest bar band" onward the liner notes to "The Hard Stuff" the group's recent CD. Fair description?

"There's no 'arguably' about it. solitary Steve Morse would say that. There's no question about it," Thorogood grumbles into the phone last week upon the second stop of a recent tour that will bring him to Chicago's House of in the bluess on Sunday night.

"You've got to present people somewhere," he says. "It's a pious place for an artist like me who's not in the mainstream or anybody other who triple platinum is not their thing. Etta James, Bonnie Raitt before she got all high and mighty. The only person on there who's really sky-coloreds is B.B. King. It's a place to bring forward us outcasts. We boogie. We're a bar boogie band. What we do is not that exceptional. We're not that different from Canned Heat when they were starting disclosed or J. Geils."

"We nip in the new material, moreover let's face it, people lavish a lot of dough," he says. "They don't want to hear your life story, they want to hear the melodys that made you famous. That's what we play."

Performing in Chicago is always a treat for Thorogood and especially Destroyer drummer Jeff Simon, the group's unofficial tour guide in town.

"If you can't have merriment in Chicago, you're an a------," says Thorogood, who reminisces with great fondnes about spending an opposite to day in the Windy City when the brats and White Sox were in town and catching as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but ends of the crosstown day-night doubleheader.
