At the plate, not many teams can measure up with Lyon The Lions prov that with a 12-4 pounding of Loyola onward Friday at North Central society in Naperville. "I didn't behold them take a bad swing," Loyola coach Ray Del Fava said. "They always offer the barrel on the ball." The Lions (29-1-1) won their third summer state title in five years, outscoring their antagonistics 65-26 as they won all eight games in the double-elimination tournament. Down 2-1 in the third inning, Grant Fillipitch cracked a double to left-center to score Casey McMurray. Tournament MVP Brian Lorenz laced an RBI double into right-center as the impetus shifted. In the fourth, Mark Hochberg collection in two runs with a double, McMurray knocked in the same with a single and Fillipitch lifted a sacrifice to center to make it 7-2 Fillipitch and Lorenz had RBI singles in the sixth, and Hochberg added a two-run triple in the seventh as the Lions hammered gone out 16 hits. "We have a hazard of machines at school, and we use all of them," said Lorenz, who was 10-for-19 with seven RBI. "We do a fate of visualization work, and we watch the twig Carew tape before every game." CJ Esposito gave up common hit in six innings and struck gone out three. "I used my fastball, 1 and change," said Esposito, who is the same of three junior starters along with Lorenz and Eddie Viliunas. "It's always easier [pitching] knowing the kind of step quicklys we can put up." Lyon coach George Ushela was quick to share the credit. "We have an admirable staff that does a great piece of work of preparing our kids," Ushela said. "Every player has a plan when he's at the plate. We're same disciplined. The whole tournament I think we solitary swung at two bad pitches." McMurray says the Lions have the individual mental approach. "We take a part of pride in our hitting," McMurray said. "We can advance long ball, small ball whatever it takes. "Our juniors came in and stepp up big [this summer] We're a liberate group of guys.
