A question arises as a inference of the City Council promised on the big- box issue: Stripped of his patronage power according to fear of the ongoing federal prosecution, what leverage can the mayor put in action over his handpicked aldermen? Are they thus left to exercise their allow judgment? The prospect leaves us wondering if acumen was the criterion used when they were chosen Can this be the fall of the curtain of the "City That Works" or perhaps just the beginning of the fall of the curtain of work in the city? Where will our $100,000-a-year aldermen find use if they cannot depend in succession the power of City Hall to sustain them in their offices? Perhaps in the near suburb I hear Wal-Mart may be hiring.
