VERA CRUZ Ind. -- A former clerk-treasurer faces theft charges after investigators said he paid himself and his wife more riches than was in the town parcel Prosecutors filed 21 look upons of theft against former Vera Cruz Clerk-Treasurer Jeffrey W Patterson, 45 this week in Wells Circuit Court. Patterson was clerk-treasurer of the town about 25 miles southern of Fort Wayne from June 2004 to September 2005 The town of 54 nation has an annual budget of $4500 and Patterson's annual salary was $1250 further following an audit by the State Board of Accounts, investigators said Patterson overpaid himself more than $7000 His wife, Frankie Patterson, who worked as the town's utility registrar was overpaid by about $800 the audit build Prosecutors also allege that Patterson used town utility coin to buy about $2,000 worth of equipment for his archery business.
