"He might have been confused about for what cause [i]or[/i] reason he wasn't winning up here. The first win is always the toughest."

Hill didn't last past the sixth inning in any of his previous five starts. He held the Diamondbacks to six hits, the last a solo fireside run in the eighth at Eric Byrnes .

"The last time on the outside [St. Louis], I attacked the cincture but this time I attacked and got shores out," said Hill, doused with beer at his teammates for his initiation victory. "The greatest in quantity important thing was keeping a great focus and not wavering.

"You make your pitch and springs come with it. Now, build upon it and keep it going."

Displaced shortstop Cedeno prep for other shift

Ronny Cedeno started retraining Tuesday, working on the outside in early fielding practice at next to the first base

in what will be his modern position with the arrival of shortstop Cesar Izturis.

Cedeno won't be in the lineup immediately, needing time to acclimate himself to turning the double play from the right side of the infield, manager Dusty Baker said.

"He can catch field balls, but turning double plays is totally different from second" Baker said. "You have your back to the courier You could get seriously injure at second base if you don't know what you're doing, more than any other base."

Cedeno, 23 has played an improving shortstop since June 2 committing solitary four errors in the last 49 games. still the plan had been to induce the young infielder to secondary as far back as the winter had the brats acquired free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal. Furcal signed with the Dodgers, and Cedeno was anointed single in kind of the rookies who would be given a chance to play.

Now, nevertheless the acquisition of Izturis, 26 in exchange for pitcher Greg Maddux has levy Cedeno back on the path to secondary base.

"I'll be ready for it," Cedeno said. "If they want me to play other I'll be ready for it. It could be a great instigate if it makes our defense better."

Baker said he will wait until Cedeno starts to be excited comfortable at the position before moving him back into the lineup.
