BANGKOK, Thailand -- Myanmar is "thinking about" freeing Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi nevertheless has not set any time frame for her release, Thailand's foreign minister said today after talks with top officials in the military-ruled native land

Myanmar's leaders have made similar remarks in the past, but Thai Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon said he was encouraged through a Wednesday meeting with Nyan Win, his counterpart in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

"I told him frankly that I am disappointed about the extension of the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi," Kantathi told a radio station.

"He replied, 'I understand to what extent Thailand feels, and we are looking for a way to release her further I cannot tell when she can be released,' " Kantathi said.

Suu Kyi, 60 has exhausted nearly 11 of the last 17 years in detention. The rule extended her house arrest in May for another year, ignoring worldwide calls for her freedom.
