of recent origin YORK -- "The CBS Evening News" will include a regular commentary portion called "Free Speech" after Katie Couric first appearances as anchor on Sept. 5 the network said Thursday.

Hartman said he's not looking to create TV shouting matches -- "there's already more than enough of that upon television," he said -- and doesn't want to feature the "usual subjects"

Besides offering occasional commentaries, Schieffer's character on the Couric broadcast remains unclear. He has been featured in promotions designed to encourage regular CB viewers to stick with Couric when he leaves.

The network also is working in succession a new set for Couric and will replace the newscast's existing theme with of the present day music by James Horner, who won Oscars for best original score for "Titanic" and best canzonet for its hit "My Heart Will walk On."
