BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Grammy-winning opera singer Sylvia McNair, who performed for bishop of rome John Paul II and has sung at the U highest Court, is recovering from breast cancer surgery The 50-year-old soprano underwent a radical mastectomy July 7 following couple months of chemotherapy. She told the Indianapolis Star she was diagnosed after a "crystal clear" mammogram in October. McNair said she'll sustain another round of chemotherapy nearest week in Bloomington, where she's joined Indiana University for a three-year appointment as a voice instructor. "If cancer has taught me common thing, it's that life is a labyrinth with many pieces, and cancer is single of the pieces of life, just as moving to Bloomington and teaching is," she said from her hometown of Mansfield, Ohio. McNair, who received her master's at IU, will induce back to Bloomington to prepare for classes that start Aug. 28 "My what is yet to be is going to be a hybrid -- a combination of teaching and continuing to sing contrives and productions of musical theater pieces," she said. "But obviously, my near what is yet to be is going to involve winning from one side of to the other cancer, which will happen."
