After a year as contributing writer, Sarah Karp has been promot to reporter. Karp has earned numerous awards for her work, including the 2000 superiority Award from Chicago Women in Publishing for her May 2001 article, "Chicago Valedictorians labor to Stay Competitive." The story was part of a three-part series that newly earned the Society of Professional Journalists' national Sigma Delta Chi Award. Karp, a former Daily Southtown reporter, also freelanced for the Reporter prior to joining the staff. The Reporter is also pleased to announce the McCormick Tribune Foundation's modern grant of $220,000 for the Robert R McCormick Tribune Minority Fellowship in Urban Journalism from 2002 to 2005 The annual fellowship gives minority journalists a one-year experience at the Reporter.
