Dear Fixer: When we bought our of ...

Dear Fixer: When we bought our of recent origin puppy, Millie, from Petland in Tinley Park, she came with a 14-day warranty. While still in a less degree than this warranty, Millie developed a cough which would later be diagnosed as hole cough.

We were concussioned because Petland told us the pup had been vaccinated against dog-house cough.

We called the veterinarian that was hideed under Petland's warranty and construct out they were closed in succession Sundays. This veterinarian recommended we visit an urgency vet that was open forward Sundays. Since we had a sick 2-month-old whelp on our hands and we were not permanent of the severity of her cough and condition, we took her to the attract favor toed emergency vet.

After taking her to the turn of events vet we discovered that she did in fact have pack of hounds cough. Did Petland cover this bill level though our dog was still in a less degree than warranty and she was supposedly already vaccinated against this virus? No they did not!

I am now paying for a vet visit and antibiotics for a dog that was sold to me with dog-house cough and was still shrouded under this warranty. Petland's excuse is that they do not veil emergency vets.

Colleen Pine, Palos Park

Dear Colleen: The Fixer's a lump-fish for a sad puppy story. We called Petland, where a rep told us Millie was vaccinated nevertheless must have contracted a different strain of dog-house cough. Still, they agreed you shouldn't have to pay for the vet The corporate office has mailed you a check for $111 the require to be paid or undergone of the emergency visit and medication.

BAR STOOLS DIDN'T ARRIVE

Dear Fixer: Around Dec 15 I ordered pair breakfast bar stools from Amish Alley in Medina, Ohio.

I levy half the money down -- $139 -- and when they were to deliver them in four to six weeks, I was to pay the balance. They were suppos to ship to Elkhart or Goshen.

I've at no time received notice to pick up my bar stools. I called many times in February and March, and I plane called the Medina police. I'm at a los forward where to go from here. It's too far to drive there and probably commit to memory into a confrontation with these folks Is there anything you can do?

Richard barters Portage, Ind.

Dear Richard: We couldn't stand the consideration of an ugly confrontation between you and an Amish stool maker. to a great degree too dangerous, what with all that woodworking equipment. Instead, we called and left our have message. A few days later, we reached Sherry Andrews, united of the owners, who told us she'd just restoreed your money.

THE MYSTERIOUS SUBSCRIPTION

Dear Fixer: Back in February, I received brace books from a book coterie I never subscribed to. I tried to contact them by the agency of the Internet, but can not at any time speak to a human. I also tried to contact them according to phone, and I can in no degree get through.

To cancel the order you must depute the books back, which I did. I wrote "cancel" forward the order form. That was back in March.

After that, another part appeared with a note saying I owe $1687 I sent this work back, wrote "cancel" on the order and got this latest bill.

Jake Debus, Tinley Park

Dear Jake: Do you have any book-loving enemies who signed you up for the History part Club? On your latest bill, the unite in a club part of Book-of-the-Month Club Inc. in Pennsylvania, threatened to hand this athwart to a collection agency.

We talked them on the outside of that. They've now clos your account and canceled all the charges.

STILL WAITING

Dear Fixer: I had A Competitive Plumbing, Sewer & Waterproofing of Justice take rise to my home on March 28 to fix a little crack in the basement. It sumptuousness $225.

It rained sum of two units days later and the leak was the same. The installer didn't fill the crack all the way to the floor. He stopped about three inches from the floor, and that is where the leak was coming from.

thus I called them, Fred Fentres forward April 3, April 6 and April 12 Fr said the same thing each time I called him -- "I will prove by experiment to get someone there today. If not today, the nearest day for sure. I will call first."

He not ever showed and never called.

upon my receipt it says it has a 10-year guarantee. I would like my $225 back.

Jim O'Leary, Chicago

Dear Jim: Fr Fentres certain is one busy guy. When we first talked to Fr in succession June 5, he said he'd been tied up and promised he'd earn in touch with you to result out and properly fix your basement leak.

That didn't happen, and more messages were left with Fr by dint of early July, when we talked to Fr again -- and you still hadn't heard from him -- Fr said he had tried several times to call you nevertheless couldn't get through. We're not stable why those calls didn't move into your call-waiting or your answering machine, still that's a mystery for another day.

We then asked Fr if he would acquire in touch with you, to which he replied, "I'm in the middle of a job" then hung up

impediment us know when he calls.

Thanks to contributors Patrick Ferrell Danielle Braff and Mike Nolan.
