Darian Christine Shellie was playing video games in a suburban basement "full of kids" when a bullet came end the lone window and struck her in the head.

The shooting late Sunday night at 1615 Lincoln Ave. in North Chicago killed the 11-year-old girl, described as "a advantageous student and good kid" from her elementary principal.

"It's a totally senseles shooting of an innocent kid," North Chicago Police Cmdr Walter Holderbaum said Monday.

Police said they received couple 911 calls around 11:27 pm that marksmans had been fired into the sole window of Darian's father's basement.

'Shooting of firecrackers?'

Joe Neumann, who lives about a brace away, was on his protectioned front porch when he heard the gunfire.

"I was enjoying the summer air and then I heard a 'bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,' and I consideration 'Is that shooting or firecrackers?' " said Neumann, who shortly saw a squad car issue into the neighborhood, followed from an ambulance.

Keller said authorities regained what looks like a 9mm drone during an autopsy Monday.

Shellie lived with her mother, Khalilah Shellie, and her brothers, Malik, Stephen and Matthew, and sister, Kayla, in the 2200 stiffen of Kristan Avenue in North Chicago, a far north suburb
