Andrew Davis, Lyric Opera of Chicago's music director and principal conductor, will meet with arterial surgery next week that will cause him to miss more than a month of performances, Lyric Opera announced Friday. Davis, 62 has bear up undered pain in his left leg for a while and the surgery a femoral popliteal artery bypass, is intended to increase his comfort and mobility. The surgery means Davis will miss the race 16 opening of Lyric's 52nd season, which begins with Puccini's "Turandot." Bruno Bartoletti, Lyric's artistic director emeritus, will replace him for six performances. Davis also will skip the "Stars of Lyric Opera" clear concert Sept. 9 at Millennium Park. A replacement has not at the same time been named. In his part as artistic adviser for the Pittsburgh harmony Orchestra, he also will miss five plots this month in Greece; Ireland; Cardiff, Wales, and at London's Royal Albert Hall.
