BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Police raise a dozen bodies in a grate in the Tigris River, and a roadside bomb killed sum of two units U.S. soldiers on a base patrol south of Baghdad forward Saturday, as nearly 50 violent deaths were reported across Iraq.

Nevertheless, Gen Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he would not order out significant U.S. troop reductions this year. Pace, who arrived in Baghdad in succession Saturday, said such a decision would be pendent on improvements in the security situation and would ensue after consultations with U.S. commanders in Iraq.
