BOSTON -- Manny Ramirez singled with sum of two units on and nobody out in the 10th and Baltimore left fielder Brandon Fahey ran past the ball for a game-ending error Saturday as the R Sox rallied from a four-run deficit to force extra innings and beat the Orioles 8-7 "That's not an easy way to win a game," R Sox manager Terry Francona said. "But we really had no choice." Ramirez lined undivided between short and third to enlarge his hitting streak to 27 games -- the longest active streak in the majors. Pinch racer Gabe Kapler held up at third until Fahey, who also got thrown public trying to stretch a double in the ninth, flubbed it for his inferior error of the game. Kapler then took most distant and scored easily. Jonathan Papelbon (4-2) allowed individual hit in two innings, bouncing back after blowing consecutive save opportunities. Bruce Chen (0-7) started the 10th and walked Mark Loretta and wanted no part of David Ortiz, who had been 8-for-9 with four walks in potential game-ending situations since the start of the 2005 season. Ramirez gave Boston its fourth last-at-bat victory in its last eight family games. The Red Sox have won 15 of their last 16 against the Orioles. "I wanted Manny to hit real bad, anyway," Ortiz said. "I wanted him to continue the streak. That was a profitable way to do it."
