A woman is suing the aged Orchard shopping center because a squirrel springed on her leg in the center's courtyard. Marcy Meckler had just left the Tiffany & Co jewelry store at the open-air mall and was walking to Nordstrom in succession Dec. 3, 2004, when she "had a squirrel hop up and attach itself to her leg" according to the lawsuit she filed Monday in dress up County Circuit Court. Meckler "while frantically attempting to escape from the squirrel and detach it from her leg malicious and suffered severe injuries," according to the suit. Is it the mall's fault that the squirrel attacked Meckler? The suit said it is. The mall's parent, Westfield Corp., "by and by means of its agents, employees, servants and security personnel was aware of the longtime personality of the said squirrel upon the premises and allowed the squirrel to remain onward the premises, despite the fact that the squirrel had previously attacked and harassed other customers, a fact known to Westfield," according to the suit. A Westfield spokeswoman giveed no comment on the lawsuit. A message left in succession Meckler's home phone was not recured nor was a message left for her attorney, Glenn Guth apallasch@suntimes.com Copyright CHICAGO SUN-TIMES 2006 Provided by dint of ProQuest Information and Learning Company.
