A basketball player at Kansas State was dismissed from the team Monday because his name appears in a registered sex-offender database.

The decision forward 6-11 forward Tyler Hughes came after athletic director Tim Weiser learned Hughes, who averaged 17 points in 26 games last season, is listed in the Kansas Bureau of Investigation's registered sex-offender database.

"After thoroughly investigating the facts as we know them, we have feeling it is in Tyler's best interest, as well as the university's, that we separate our relationship," Weiser said.

Hughes, 21 was registered May 5 for aggravated indecent liberties with a child. District attorney Paul Morrison said Hughes was younger than 18 at the time of the incident, on the other hand authorities didn't find out about it until lately

"It is not remarkable to have a delay in cases like this," Morrison said.



Weiser said he raise out about the case Saturday and won't annotation further because "the dismissal flowed from an apparent juvenile criminal case that is sealed at law and preceded his arrival at Kansas State."

"It is absolutely not what it seems" Hughes' father, Rodney told the Kansas City Star. "But right or wrong, it still doesn't anticipate good."
