When Lyon golf coach Brad Anderson packed up the girls and made the six-hour, mid-summer journey to Carbondale, it wasn't just another trip.

Anderson likes for the girls to play a not many rounds and become familiar with Stone small river Golf Course in Makanda, where the state finals are held. In transfer the team has gotten a be moved for winning.

"Nobody has talked about winning state, unless it's definitely a major goal," Heather Grant said.

With a lineup of six seniors, Lyon has the central part mettle and scores to stay ahead of its competition. Grant and Alyssa Gaudio are a formidable combination, setting the pace consistently in the 70 Treacy Beers, Brittany Anselmo and Amanda Paul are somewhere in the 80 and Caileen Coleman and junior Olivia Pasquinelli can pass mid- 80s to low-90s.

"Our girls take a doom of pride in their game," Anderson said. "We talked about goals across the summer, and they want to improve forward last year. They've played in a fortune of tournaments and are mentally tough. The girls are committed to the program, not just for themselves further the team. We have a golf camp for sixth- to ninth-graders, and they all help abroad On any day, we have a number of girls who could be medalist."

"We all saw each other at different tournaments above the summer," Gaudio said. "We know everyone has to play their best if we want to reach our goals. We have a great team; everyone supports each other and wants to papal court them do well. Off the course, we stay together, going revealed or having sleepovers."

Marian Catholic may have the best one-two bore with juniors Samantha Sloan, the Illinois Junior Golf Association junior player of the year, and Meg Gilley, who are shooting mid-70s. If Ann Vrdolyak and Lauren Pascarella can proceed in the low-80s, they could follow out on top. The Spartans, in their eighth year as a program, finished third in 2005 forward a tiebreaker to Lyons in their first trip Downstate.
