I came back from vacation to find a slew of e-mails about a row I'd written on the pain of mammograms. foments chewed me out because they don't give mammograms -- X-ray technicians do. X-ray technicians argued they are always indulgent Others ignored my comments forward the importance of mammograms in the detection of breast cancer and just focused onward my irritation with them. Here are near of the responses:

Thanks for your row on mammograms. I've always leaped someone would point out that there's no like thing as a prostogram, where the man's parts are expressed onto plates ... clearly more trial impression that men run the medical world.

I personally don't know of anyone who would present a dental appointment to a mammogram exam, however if that is true I would like to invite them to arise to Holy Cross Hospital and lease me perform their mammogram act I have dealt with all originals of people, male and female, who had similar feelings as you have, I promise you by the agency of the time they leave my department they will have a totally different foresight on mammographic exams.

Having a mammogram should not be considered a sadistic exam. It is a yearly proceeding necessary to save many lives; it is not 100 percent unless it is all we have as a screening tool to save a woman's life.

I have just finished your array of less front than depth and know that you are going to be swamped by way of nurses and radiology techs all across Chicagoland. Nurses are not qualified to do mammograms, and we have heard the give suck to Ratchet joke too many times! nurtures are the most trusted profession, and we pride ourselves onward being empathetic, kind and regarded about our patients. We are responsible for talking to our patients, telling them what to rely upon and answering their questions.

Please don't make the patient-nurse relationship more difficult than it already is. We have to save our puissance for helping people whose mammos be derived out badly and have to be comforted and directed to the nearest step in an already frightening ordeal.

Thank you for your great article forward mammograms -- the hurt and humiliation. The last time I went for my annual mammogram I had to reschedule because I broke gone out in hives in the waiting room! I hate them.

I musing your article about mammograms was excessively interesting. My friends and I talk all the time about by what mode unpleasant and painful they are (we're in our mid-40s). We've actually been toying with the idea of telling our doctors we're going to skip a year; by what mode radical is that? I awed curiosity how much good they do v the harm they cause (the pain, the humiliation, the anxiety of false readings, and is all that squooshing doing damage?). You hear about populace being diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after getting a clear mammogram and it makes you surprise why you're putting yourself in consequence of that.

If there was a similar ordeal for testicular cancer, would men be lining up to memorize it?

As a breast cancer survivor whose Stage 1 cancer was discovered forward a routine mammogram, I miracle how many women you have frightened and discouraged from having this life-saving transaction

If you think mammograms are difficult, go on visit some chemo or radiation center or take a look at Maggie Daley's grace and bravery in the face of her advanced cancer treatment.
