Fewer than 3 percent of stray cats at People's Animal Welfare Society shelter were reunited with their holders this year.
That leaves a part of cats in the care of the offer staff at Tinley Park PAWS shelter. to such a degree far, 116 stray cats and kittens have been picked up and single three have been claimed.
"The PAWS shelter is run over with cats," police Chief Michael O'Connell said.
To address the abundance of cats in the village, Tinley Park officials not long ago agreed to reduce its required holding period at the police department's animal sway facility from six days to three before turning through stray cats to the shelter. The holding period for stray dogs remains six days.
