American men and women watch to embrace many well-known sexual stereotype admitting to patterns of behavior commonly attributed to their inflection for sex according to a Scripps Howard/Ohio University catalogue of heads of 1,010 adult Americans interviewed last month

Men contacted in the research admitted to sloppy eating habits, to taking unnecessary risks and to a reluctance to admit when they ne help. Women likewise, were quick to admit they have the advantage [i]or[/i] blessing of shopping, going to the mall, asking for directions when traveling and to being more fastidious.

'SOCIAL BARRIERS ARE DOWN'

The meaning of the survey's findings is in dispute, however.

"We are all in this way taken with the notion of form relative to sex differences. But what do they really count us?" asked Rosalind Barnett of the Women's Studies Research Center at Brandeis University.

"We weren't born to like wine and we weren't born to hurry out of gas. These stereotype blind us to issues that might be more important. Women certainly now are taking more risks -- riding motorcycles and getting into accidents -- because the social barriers are down," Barnett said.

"I remember my first graduate course in nonverbal communication was all about to what extent stereotypes are generally accurate," said Tom Birk of the advertising agency Crispin Porter and Bogusky.
