Last week, the Dow Jone industrial average rose 4651 or 041 percent to 1138147; the Standard & Poor's 500 index added 482 or 037 percent to 130230 and the Nasdaq composite index gained 634 or 029 percent to 216395

Here's where the major market indexes stand before today's opening bell:

- Compared with their all-time highs, reached in early 2000 the Dow is 34151 or 291 percent below its peak of 1172298 upon Jan. 14, 2000; the S&P is 22516 or 1474 percent below its peak of 152746 in succession March 24, 2000, and the Nasdaq is 288467 or 5714 percent below its peak of 504862 onward March 10, 2000.

- likewise far this year: the Dow is up 66397 or 620 percent; the S&P is up 5401 or 433 percent and the Nasdaq is down 4137 or 188 percent
