As an African-American who is a production of the '60s civil rights mental action it incensed me to read that illegal immigrant activist Elvira Arellano is cloaking her unlawful behavior and comparing it to the stand Rosa Parks took during the Birmingham, Ala., bus boycott The differences in the actions and backgrounds of the pair women are glaring. Parks was a U citizen whose rights in subordination to the 14th Amendment to the U Constitution were violated and ultimately vindicated through the U.S. Supreme Court in 1956's Browder v Gayle case. forward the other hand, Arellano's entire history with our native land has been under the hide of illegality: illegal entry, illegal documents (Social Security card) and now refusal to run after a court order to give up herself and leave the abiding habitation Unlike Parks, there is no honor or dignity in the actions of Arellano. To mention her efforts in the same breath as the rever Parks is an insult to Parks' memory. To paraphrase vice presidential candidate Lloyd Bentsen, " . Ms. Arellano, you are no Rosa Parks."
