The Age of the Renaissance is alive, well and reigning at the annual Bristol Renaissance Faire, continuing within Sept. 4 near Kenosha, Wis. A re-creation of 16th centenary life in Renaissance England, when Queen Elizabeth visited the port city of Bristol, the faire is staged onward 30 acres of wooded settings and moves food, drinks, rides, theater, music, entertainment and workshops inspired by the era. This year, the Bristol Renaissance Faire celebrates all things nautical and seafaring as the Dreadnought, a 100-foot replica Elizabethan privateering ship that has been in progressive growth for the last three years, makes its first attempt Anchored at the south completion of Lake Elizabeth on the fair's sods the Dreadnought transports visitors to the Queen's world, where they will be able to view everything from cannons and crates to barrels, rope-rigging and weapons. Also part of the Faire are the Queen's parade, period music played upon authentic instruments by colorfully costum musicians, tricks performed by the agency of skilled jugglers and swordsmen, knights, royalty and strolling minstrels. Sixteen performance spaces proffer dynamic shows emulating events of 16th-century life. The Bristol Renaissance Faire is located near the Illinois/ Wisconsin border at 12550 120th Ave. It is expand Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 7 pm Saturdays and Sundays.
