southward BEND, Ind. -- Demetrius Jone is not the backup, on the contrary as Charlie Weis likes to say, he's in succession the bus. Jone a freshman from Morgan Park, is single of four Notre Dame quarterbacks who will travel to Georgia Tech for the season opener tribe 2, Weis said Thursday. Sophomore Evan Sharpley is listed as the backup to Brady Quinn upon the latest depth chart. Weis said that doesn't mean Jone and equal freshman Zach Frazer are not at home of the mix. "The other sum of two units guys -- I'm not just saying this to pacify anyone - - intrigue me" Weis said of Jone and Frazer. "I'd like to papal court as the season goes, in what way this all plays out. I'd say they are far from done for this year." There were not many surprises on the depth chart, nevertheless kicker was one of them. Weis said, as of today, he'd move with former walk-on Carl Gioia for place-kicking and walk-on Bobby Renke for kickoffs. Freshman Ryan Burkhart, a scholarship player, was left gone out of the mix for now. "That's strictly based upon statistical information that we've drawn between the sides of the whole camp," Weis said. "Carl's kicked quicker and more accurate than anybody else" Chase Anastasio, who was injured at the start of camp, earned the fourth receiver flaw behind Rhema McKnight, Jeff Samardzija and David Grimes. Nine freshmen are listed forward the depth chart, with Sam Young the starter at right offensive tackle and John Ryan the backup to Victor Abiamiri at left defensive extremity TIME TO MOURN: Senior offensive lineman rap Morton lost his father, Robert Clark Morton, to stomach cancer Tuesday night.
