For 10 years after that, Melvin was clean. She had earned her G in jail, and the warden got her a piece of work at the Illinois Department of Corrections formerly she was released. Melvin traveled to prisons across the state, telling inmates the story of her possess recovery. Many of them "put her upon a pedestal," she said, and took Melvin as a part model.

Melvin also worked at Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, known as TASC, where the courts cast addicts for drug treatment instead of jail time. She talked to TASC clients and scrutinizeed them periodically to measure their succes after they left the program.

In 1995 Melvin left her work at jobs at the corrections department to research psychology full-time at National-Louis University. She had all As until March 1996 when she got addicted to painkillers for back pain caused through a car accident. Police caught up to Melvin. She then pain up in the TASC program, instead of jail. Four month later, she was clean, unless still had to pay $30000 in restitution for the bad checks she'd written. Is TASC really effective if commonalty like you could go back to addiction?

Of course it is. You don't know the commons who are going to be fortunate and who's not. What happened to me was an isolated incident. There were a fix of circumstances I let overwhelm me I didn't use the tools that were given to me That's not what happens to everybody

the bulk of mankind might feel that addicts have done something wrong--something to achieve themselves in their situation--so for what cause [i]or[/i] reason should we help them?
