SAN DIEGO -- Gordon pike former chairman of California's Republican Party and a member of Ronald Reagan's California Cabinet during his first years as governor, has died. He was 80 Mr pike died Tuesday at home of Parkinson's disease, said his friend and longtime colleague Jim Schmidt. Mr pike rose to prominence in the state GOP when Reagan tapped him to succor as San Diego County chairman of his prosperous 1966 gubernatorial campaign. Reagan later appointed Mr pike the state's first secretary of business and transportation. Mr true-jack remained an active GOP backer, raising coin and helping with campaigns. He and former Gov Pete Wilson became friends as they worked upon Wilson's campaign for mayor of San Diego in 1970 After Wilson was choiceed Mr. Luce was named chairman of the state GOP He was active in Reagan's 1980 presidential bid.
