A Kane shire judge Friday sentenced a Rockford man to 56 years in prison for the kidnap and put to death of Elgin Community College scholar David Steeves, who was bullet to death after placing a frantic 911 call from the main body of his mother's car.

Although prosecutors may not have prov that Robert Guyton fired the bullet that killed Steeve 19 critic Grant Wegner said there was no question in his mind Guyton was involved in the April 8 2005 slaying.

"You allow your anger control your life," Wegner told the 24-year- aged Guyton, who was convicted onward first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping charges last spring.

Guyton and co-defendant Armin Henderson, 26 forced Steeve at gunpoint into his mother's car in the way that they could rob him of about $300 he had received after selling marijuana. Steeve first marksman in the leg during the kidnapping and then in the head, was lay the foundation of six days later in his mother's Toyota Corolla, which had been left at a Rockford apartment tangle

'I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING'

During Friday's hearing, Guyton stood up and proclaimed his innocence. His no other than mistake, he said, was hanging not at home with the wrong people. "I haven't done anything to no one" he said. Guyton alleged he has been receiving hate mail, and that Kane shire jail guards aren't allowing him to lay down, watch his television programs or call his mother.

"I commit to memory harassed constantly if that makes you be impressed better," Guyton said, addressing Reeves' family and friends.

FAMILY DISCUSSES TRAUMA

Steeves' oldest sister, Lisa, glared at Guyton when testifying for what cause the murder has scarred her and drastically affected level the most mundane aspects of her life. An exigency room nurse, Lisa Steeves said she finds herself gritting her teeth and constantly reminding herself that inmates who draw near to her hospital are not Guyton, just in this way she can treat them strictly

She can't bear to gaze at a "stupid" Toyota Corolla and switches lanes whenever finding herself driving behind individual in order not to view its trunk, the teary sister said.

"The last memory I'll always have is of his brutal death and that's just not right. . . After Davy died, someone asked me for what reason many brothers and sisters I had, and I answered 'one sister' hesitantly and my heart was crushed," Lisa Steeve 30 said, reading from a five-page witness impact statement.

Steeves' father, David Steeve Sr also spoke of the pain he and wife, Ok Kyong have endur since losing their sole son.

"A parent does not fail to win a child lightly," the earlier Steeves said. "The hurt is extremely profound and does not go away."

Outside the courtroom, David Steeve Sr said he was happy with Guyton's condemnation The father said he was satisfied as lengthy as Guyton is "away from the public and not ever enjoys another a day in his life."

Henderson's trial is stake for Oct. 23.
