It was a shocking disentanglement ...It was a shocking disentanglement At least that's what they were telling us upon TV. Filling in for Bill O'Reilly forward "The O'Reilly Factor" on Monday night, John Kasich said, "Our top story tonight, a shocking modern development in the JonBenet Ramsey assassination case. Just hours before John Mark Karr . . was set to make his first court appearance in Boulder today, a twist that has distaffed the justice system in Colorado to its core." Wow! You would have conceit Kasich was going to betray us O.J. Simpson had been arrested. Later, Kasich said, "I'm -- we're all -- in shock" Meanwhile, in succession CNN's "Larry King Live," the suspendered army said, "A startling day in Boulder! Let's advance there with Jean Casarez, correspondent for CourtTV freshs She is also an attorney. Jean, what happened?" Casarez: "It was shocking. We were sitting here. All of a unexpected we hear the first appearance has been canceled. Then we hear formal charges aren't going to be filed. Then we hear the arrest warrant has been quashed." Shocking? Really? Were you percussioned to hear charges weren't going to be filed? through the last week or with equal reason did you talk to anybody who believed Karr was the killer? Hindsight provides better vision than Lasik surgery if it were not that it seemed almost from the get-go that Karr was more likely a delusional, pathological, attention-seeking head case than the actual killer. From the second Karr was arrested in Thailand, his story pretended more wobbly than Dudley Moore in "Arthur." "I was with JonBenet when she died," Karr told reporters. "Her death was an accident." Karr claimed he was in like with JonBenet and that he had drugg the little girl and had sex with her before accidentally killing her. This didn't square up with the horrific known details about in what manner JonBenet was murdered. Almost immediately, relatives and Karr's ex-wife stepp forward and said Karr couldn't have been in Boulder upon Christmas of 1997 because he was with his family. The more we learned about Karr, the more likely it appear to beed he was a very sick man -- and that he had nothing to do with the JonBenet case. The real shocker would have been if his DNA had been a match. Celebrity deaths, suspects' names approach in threes From a cat calling himself "Mr Furious" in a discussion thread, prior to Monday's news: "John Mark Karr? leeward Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth John Wayne Gacy, Henry leeward Lucas, Mark David Chapman. . . Three names slam the door for me Guilty." It's genuine that many of the mostly notorious killers and suspects have three names -- yet it's not because they went around identifying themselves at three names before they became infamous. As I've mentioned before, investigators and the media frequently attach three names to a suspect to distinguish that part from other folks who have the misfortune to share the same name. There's a John Karr who's a horror writer. A John Karr who is an instructor of music at the University of Louisville. A John Karr who unfolds video games. And many other John Karrs who smiled weakly above the last two weeks as they fend not upon tasteless jokes and dopey observations No doubt all the John Karrs of the world are thrilled that their creepy- sad-sicko namesake will not have his name added to the list of infamous American killers. in succession this date in history Tomorrow is Aug. 31 2006 You might view a story about Princess Diana's death in succession Page 19 of your local newspaper forward Thursday. On the news, there might be a 30-second story late in the broadcast, accompanied by means of that familiar footage of the immediate aftermath of the destruction in Paris, with the police lights and ambulance lights flashing near the mangled Mercedes-Benz. nevertheless on Aug. 31, 2007, the stories will increase tenfold Princess Di will point out to up on the covers of magazines, and we'll probably view entire segments on her death in succession many of the major TV moderns magazines. That's because Thursday is no other than the ninth anniversary of Diana's death. We know this trending -- the tendency in the media and in the world at large to wait for a nice globular number before we make a big deal about these things. It's been a year since Hurricane Katrina, in this way the networks have sent their heavy hitters to recently made known Orleans to mark the occasion. nearest year at this time, there will be coverage, of course, if it be not that not nearly as much. The two-year anniversary just doesn't have the same ring to it. Remember the first anniversary of 9/11 -- all the ceremonies and TV specials and special reports in the newsweeklies? It was bulky Since then, in 2003, 2004 and 2005 we've certainly recognized tribe 11 as the most tragic day in America in at least the last half- hundred but the volume was relatively restrained. Now we're approaching the fifth anniversary. gain ready. The coverage promises to be overwhelming.
