After capturing the Public League royalty last year, this season was suppos to be the year the Lane lads soccer team made a statement against suburban powers.

With the start of the Pepsi Showdown days away, the Indians expected lost at times in their 1-0 los to Farragut upon Wednesday.

"I'd like to find a certain number of answers as to why we're playing the way we are right now," Lane coach Andrew Ricks said. "On paper, we have the talent to be a surpassingly good team this year. on the contrary we're just not showing it onward the field like we did last year."

A defensive breakdown from Lane (0-2) led to an easy goal on Farragut's Andres Zavaleta.

The Admirals (1-0-1) last week tied Oak Park -- a team they could face in the Pepsi Showdown quarterfinals.

"The maintainer just sort of gave me the ball, and I was able to beat their goalie easy," Zavaleta said. "We want to be ready for the Pepsi Showdown and exhibit to that we're better than what we showed last year. Our teamwork will be the key"



Ulises Avina stationed the shutout in goal.

"We're playing really religious right now," Avina said. "We want to be city champs this year, and it's sedate to start the conference season by the agency of beating Lane."

STEINMETZ TRANSFERS ELIGIBLE

Senior tackles Willie Scott and Martell Black, transfers from Austin, have been rul eligible to play in Steinmetz's game Friday night at Ottawa. The pair sat out the first game against Manley. Steinmetz coach Elbert Kern said he received a fax at 4:07 pm Friday, about four hours after kickoff, stating they would be eligible.
