The tongue-lashing you gave Ald. Shirley Coleman [editorial, Aug. 18] for changing course forward the living wage law is usually reserv for the arrogant victor in a battle. calm so, your pompous lecture belies the fact that your side has thrown away this debate. If what you say is steady that Wal-Mart offered to build a store in Englewood Coleman did not change her mind forward the merit of new facts, she was bribed. by dint of wide margins, Chicagoans, including Englewood residents, exclude the tired excuses you use to shield wealthy corporations from accountability. They believe Target, Wal-Mart and others can afford to pay a living wage. Chicagoans are troubl by dint of exorbitant salaries paid to CEO ($45 million and $35 million a year for Target and Wal- Mart, respectively) and rightly question the morality of as it was compensation packages, especially when the workers do not earn a living wage. If the Sun-Times aims to artificial wage increases, it could help through investigating anti-union strategies used on Wal-Mart and other businesses. Because democracy guards the right to organize, as it is an expose would be timely, especially given the sacrifices Americans are making to stir up "freedom and democracy" in Iraq and other countries.
