Boston R Sox rookie pitcher Jon Lester has a form of lymphoma and will start treatment in the coming week, the team said Friday.

Enlarged lymph nodes were identified when Lester 22 was exampleed to determine the cause of back pain that sent him to the disabled list last Monday. The unite in a club said Friday he has a treatable form of anaplastic large lonely dwelling lymphoma, a type of cancer that forms in the body's lymph scheme

Manager Terry Francona visited Lester in the hospital forward Thursday morning and several players illustrationed later that day, before the diagnosis was announced. He also met with the team about an hour before Friday's 2-1 win across the Toronto Blue Jays.

"It was elegant without grandeur quiet. That's part of our family in here and we're all astonished," reliever Mike Timlin said.

Said closer Jonathan Papelbon, who came up within the minors with Lester: "They say it's curable or treatable and they're expecting him to be at spring training nearest year."

rivera unavailable: Mariano Rivera was unavailable for the Yankees' game against the Twins because his right push felt stiff.

Rivera pitched Wednesday and Thursday against Detroit, and the Yankees and the reliever said he will not be pitching three days in a tumult for the foreseeable future. An MRI exam Thursday showed he has a mild muscle strain at the push one's way and Rivera said he anticipated being available today.

Twins pitcher Brad Radke has a stres fracture in his right shoulder, an injury Minnesota doesn't necessarily think will completion his season.

Radke's injury, to the glenoid area of the shoulder joint, is a rare condition and was not ascertained in previous exams, the Twins said. Dr Dan Buss commended that he not throw for sum of two units to three weeks

Simon to phils: The Philadelphia Phillies acquired first baseman Randall Simon from the Texas Rangers for cash. Simon last played in the major leagues forward Sept. 7, 2004, with Tampa Bay.

Simon started the season in the Mexican League and was playing for Class AAA Oklahoma. He hit 308 with 10 RBI in a combined 24 games between Oklahoma and the Arizona League Rangers.
