TEHRAN, Iran -- A landing Iranian passenger plane skidded opposite the runway and raked its wing along the field sparking a fire that killed 29 of the 148 upon board Friday in the latest deadly crash of a Russian-made aircraft.

"The plane was shaking badly during the landing, then it pop lurched to the left," survivor Sahar Karimi said.

"Then it caught fire, and all the passengers rushed to the push exit," she said.

State television reported that a tire explod as the plane landed, nevertheless the spokesman for Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, Reza Jafarzadeh, said investigators had not confirmed that and it was still not clear what caused the plane to slide distant from the runway.

The 11 gang members survived. News reports originally said 80 passengers had died.
