The NFL Players Association filed a grievance Friday forward behalf of holdout wide receiver Deion Branch after the recent England Patriots did not trade him before the team-imposed deadline for him to endeavor to gain a deal. Richard Berthelsen, lawyer for the union, said the grievance alleges that the Patriots "reneged" in succession an agreement to trade their best receiver, who is entering the last season of a five-year contract he signed as a rookie. upon Aug. 25, the Patriots gave Branch, who is scheduled to make $1045 million this year, permission to negotiate a contract with other teams and solicit a trade until 4 pm onward Sept. 1. At 4:02 pm Friday, the Patriots issued a statement saying, "No trade has been consummated. Deion Branch remains beneath contract to the New England Patriots." The grievance alleges that in allowing Branch to work gone out a contract with another team, the Patriots agreed they would trade him if Branch was comfortable with that contract and the draft choice compensation for him "was commensurate with what has been the value of similar players," Berthelsen said in a telephone interview.
