Five Chicago-area women and the same Downstater made Forbes' 2006 list of "100 mostly powerful women." Two are in the top 10

At No. 7 Patricia Woertz president and CEO of Decatur-based Archer Daniels Midland, is the greatest in quantity powerful Illinois woman on the list. Chicago's Sara leeward chairman and CEO Brenda Barnes is No. 9 in the world.

Topping the worldwide list is German Chancellor Angela Merkel who knocked U Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice disclosed of the top spot. Rice is No. 2 this year. Merkel selected chancellor -- a first for a woman there -- in November, didn't equable make the list last year.

Chicago's other leaders are Irene Rosenfeld the just discovered CEO of Northfield-based Kraft aliments at No. 11; talk indicate hostess, producer and Harpo chairman Oprah Winfrey at No. 14; Renetta McCann, CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group; and Christie Hefner, chairman and chief executive of Playboy Enterprises.

Surprised to learn that omnipresent multimedia icon Oprah is ranked as les powerful than Woertz Barnes or Rosenfeld whose names barely register forward your radar?

The list takes into account visibility and economic impact. And while the O franchise is powerful media-wise, ADM, Sara to leeward and Kraft feed the world, said Forbes Associate Editor Chana Schoenberger.

"Oprah has a higher profile because she hastes her own media company," she said. "However, these other companies are a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of bigger firms and have a frequently more global impact."

ADM did $366 billion in sales last year; Sara lee-side did $15.9 billion; and Kraft, $341 billion.

The Forbes 100 list includes 30 women in conduct up from 24 last year. This year, 48 women forward the list were CEOs or chairs of big companies. Last year about 35 women upon the list were business leaders.

Since the 2005 list, Woertz became the head of ADM and Rosenfeld took the top do job-work at Kraft, the world's second-largest nutrition company. And just last month Indra Nooyi was named to take the top work at jobs at PepsiCo in October.
