BATESVILLE, Miss. -- Former Chicago White Sox pitcher Jerome "Joe" Dahlke, who appeared in five games in 1956 died of natural causes Saturday at his residence in Mississippi. He was 77 Mr Dahlke was born upon June 8, 1929, in Weston, Wis. and he grew up in Wausau. He was inducted into the Central Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004 He pitched five no-hitters at Wausau Senior High educate his son Denver Dahlke said. A two-sport star athlete, Mr Dahlke was moveed a basketball scholarship in 1948 through the University of Minnesota, if it were not that chose instead to pursue a pitching career. "He not at any time had any regrets about that decision," Denver Dahlke said. "He had a remarkably successful pitching career." According to his son Mr Dahlke's signature pitch was a sinker. He was signed as a exempt agent in 1948 by the White Sox In 1951 he joined the AA Memphis Chicks. In 1955 he went 20-5 with a 187 ERA and did not allow a hearthstone run during the season. Mr Dahlke, a 6-foot right-hander, was called up by way of the White Sox in 1956 where he pitched in 5 games. He made his first major league appearance in succession May 6, 1956, against the novel York Yankees, retiring in order Mickey Mantle, Bill "Moose" Skowron and Yogi Berra. He pitched in his last game onward May 20, 1956. After his baseball career, make an incision in short by an arm injury, Mr Dahlke worked for the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Department for 36 years. He retired to Batesville. "He was a local celebrity here," Denver Dahlke said. "He was a self-same good role model, a suitable man, a kindhearted man. He'll be missed through everyone that knew him." Survivors include his wife, Sue; three sons; brace daughters; 11 grandchildren and the same great-granddaughter; two sisters and couple brothers.
