Synopsis of Clinical Pulmonary Disease is a well written volume dealing with the major manifestations of pulmonary illnesses. There are 21 contributors--mainly from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center--who have state together 33 chapters encompassing 370 pages. Forty-four tables and 93 figures are used to illustrate the important topics strained in the text.

Brief chapters are establish in the beginning of the volume on the subjects of lung edifice and function, major pulmonary symptoms, pulmonary disease history and physical examination, steps and pulmonary function testing. These chapters provided a reasonable be excited for the subject covered; however, the appellation and brevity for a "synopsis" was noticeable to the informed reader.

There were profitable chapters on sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and sleep-disordered breathing. choice chapters appeared on ARDS, pulmonary vascular diseases and pulmonary hypertension, disease of the pleura, and cystic fibrosis. Finally, solitary nodule, lung cancer, pneumoconiosis and air pollution chapters were also good

I did find more [i]or[/i] less limitations in this book, and I suspect they arose not at home of the fact that it is a synopsis. Accordingly, as a lung and critical care specialist who has the greatest respect for the editors of this work certain shortcomings within the clause were obvious.

For a collaborative work on lung disorders, I fix reproduction of the chest roentgenographs poor. I am also dissatisfied whenever I papal court a black-and-white histology reproduction, as I am left trying to sort on the outside inflamatory cells from lymphocytes and fibrosis from adjacent normal membranes. I believe management strategy could have been disguiseed in more depth; specifically, dosages and intervals of medicines administered. Some sections in the work had very inadequate bibliographies, as seen in the chapter forward the aging lung. There were a number of serious typographic errors over the book but, fortunately, these are obvious to the well read individual. Finally, what is yet to be editions of this book should include a section forward critical care medicine as it applies to pulmonary disorders, as well as ethics.

I suspect this part would be best for the medical close examiners and non-internal medicine specialties. I believe it does give a serviceable overview of pulmonary medicine in a clearly written fashion.
